Frequently asked questions

Is the hike planner free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, and the calculations run in your browser. To show the forecast, the start point is sent through Outest’s server to MET Norway, the Norwegian weather service.

Which trails can I pick?

Every stage of the Lycian Way, the St Paul Trail and the Tour du Mont Blanc. For any other route, type in the distance and climb, and add a start point for the weather and daylight.

Can I share a plan?

Yes. Your inputs are kept in the page address, so you can copy the link and send it. Anyone who opens it sees the same plan. A trail stage link looks like outestapp.com/tools/?trail=tour-du-mont-blanc&stage=3.

How accurate are the results?

They are planning estimates based on simple rules of thumb. Your own pace, the terrain and the weather on the day will differ. Use them to plan, then adjust to what you find on the trail.
