How to call for help on Mount Ararat, how to deal with altitude sickness, the nearest hospital for each of the 3 stages, and the 2026 rules: permit, licensed agency, local guide and camps.
In an emergency call 112 from any phone; it covers ambulance, jandarma, police, fire and AFAD. On Ağrı Dağı, rescue is run by jandarma search and rescue teams, who are on standby in the national park in season. Signal is patchy, so your guide may have to call by radio. Say that you are on the southern route, give your camp, altitude and GPS position, and describe the symptoms. If someone has severe altitude sickness, start going down at once and do not wait for the helicopter.
| Number | What it is |
|---|---|
| 112 | Single emergency number for ambulance, jandarma, police, fire and AFAD, free from any phone, 24/7. Mountain rescue on Ağrı Dağı is run by the jandarma (JAK teams). |
| +90 472 312 60 47 | Doğubayazıt Dr. Yaşar Eryılmaz State Hospital, the nearest hospital, with a 24-hour emergency department |
| +90 472 312 60 03 | Doğubayazıt District Governorship (Kaymakamlık), which issues the climbing permits, office hours |
Phone signal on the mountain is unreliable, and your guide carries a radio, so stay with your group. In 2026 two survival shelters were set up at Camp 2 (4,200 m) and at 4,650 m, with first aid supplies, radios and an emergency button linked directly to 112: use them if bad weather or altitude sickness stops you, and wait there for the rescue team. Save the hospital and your agency numbers in your phone, tell someone at home your dates, and check the forecast with your guide before summit night.

Doğubayazıt has about 20 pharmacies in the centre and a duty-pharmacy rota (nöbetçi eczane): the pharmacy open at night and on Sundays is posted on every pharmacy door. There is nothing to buy above Eli, so bring blister plasters, painkillers, sun cream and your own medicines. Ask your doctor before the trip about medicine for altitude sickness. The camps have little or no electricity: carry a power bank.
