On the Old Ghost Road you sleep in four trust huts that must be booked online before you start, in their summer sleepouts or tent sites, or in two free DOC huts that cannot be booked. The booked huts have gas cookers, cookware and mattresses, so you carry food and a sleeping bag but no tent. Book the Lyell campsite, the lodges at each end and your shuttle or car relocation well ahead.
