Season notes from our guide

The hiking season is short: from early July, when the snow leaves Citadel Pass and Wonder Pass, to late September. In 2026 record snowpack delayed access to Sunshine Meadows until 6 July. Wildflowers peak from mid-July to early August, and the larches turn gold in the second half of September, which is also the busiest time at Lake Magog. Snow can fall in any month, nights are often near freezing at 2,200 m, and summer afternoons bring thunderstorms with hail. Assiniboine Lodge and its helicopter run from about 20 June to 1 October; outside that window there are no services or flights.
