Season notes from our guide

The summer hut season is short. In 2026 the STF mountain huts were open from 18 June to 13 September, and Kebnekaise Fjällstation from 12 June to 20 September; for 2027 the huts are listed as open from 24 June to 19 September. Abisko Turiststation is open all year. There is also a winter season, roughly late February to April, when the trail is a ski route.

From late May to mid-July the sun does not set at Abisko (the midnight sun). Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance in summer, especially on warm, calm days in July, so bring repellent and a head net. July and the first half of August are the busiest weeks, and the Fjällräven Classic fills the trail in early August (6–14 August in 2026). Late August and September are quieter, with fewer insects and darker nights, but the weather is colder and the huts close in mid-September.
