Wonderland Trail emergency & health guide: hospitals, rescue, 911 and PLBs

How to call for help with almost no phone signal, the nearest hospital for each of the 11 stages, and the park rules: wilderness permits, designated camps, food storage, river crossings and the 2026 fire closure.

In an emergency call 911. Inside Mount Rainier National Park, NPS rangers run search and rescue, often with a helicopter. Most of the park has no cell coverage: if you cannot call, use a personal locator beacon or satellite messenger, send someone to the nearest ranger, Wilderness Information Center or emergency phone, and stay with the injured person. Say which camp or trail junction you are near and, if you can, your GPS coordinates.

Leave your itinerary with someone at home, check the trail conditions and fire pages and the weather forecast before you start, and cross glacial rivers early in the morning.
