Mount Rinjani Trek emergency & health guide: hospitals, rescue, 112 and park rules

How to call for help on an active volcano with patchy phone signal, the nearest hospital or clinic for each of the 4 stages, and the park rules: eRinjani booking, licensed guides, health certificate, insurance, the annual closure and zero waste.

In an emergency tell your guide first: guides carry radios and must report to the trekking organiser and the park, who coordinate rescue with BASARNAS, the national search and rescue agency. You can call 112 (general emergency) or 115 (BASARNAS) from any phone, and BASARNAS also answers on WhatsApp (+62 812 2200 0115). Signal is patchy, often absent in the crater, so try from the rim. Say which camp or post you are near and, if you can, your GPS position. Casualties are usually carried down by stretcher; helicopters fly only in clear weather.

119Ambulance and medical emergencies (118 also works).
110Police.
+62 811 283 939Mount Rinjani National Park office (Balai TNGR), Mataram, also on WhatsApp; office hours 7.30 am – 4 pm.

Phone signal on Rinjani is patchy and often absent in the crater, so stay with your guide and do not count on your phone. Under the 2025 park rules the guide gives first aid, informs the organiser and the park, and the casualty walks down assisted or is carried by stretcher to the trailhead; helicopters fly only in clear weather. Make sure your insurance covers trekking to 3,726 m and helicopter evacuation, tell someone at home your dates, and check the weather and the volcano alert level before you start.

Clinics and health centres

There is no clinic on the mountain. Nusa Medica Clinic in Sembalun Lawang has a 24-hour emergency service and issues the health certificate you need the day before the climb; the community health centre (Puskesmas) below Senaru gives basic care. The nearest hospitals with a 24-hour emergency department are RSUD KLU in Tanjung (Senaru side) and RSUD dr. R. Soedjono in Selong (Sembalun side); the main referral hospitals are in Mataram.

Pharmacies, cash and supplies

There is no pharmacy on the trek, and the mountain villages have little choice. Buy your medicines, blister plasters, rehydration salts and any altitude medication in Mataram before you go. There is no electricity at the camps: carry a power bank.
