Kalalau Beach campsite (DLNR)

  • Other

The trail's main campsite, behind the sand beach and under the trees between Kalalau Stream and Ho'olea Falls, with composting toilets and the waterfall and stream as the only water (treat it). Permit from camping.ehawaii.gov up to 90 days ahead, $35 per person per night for non-residents, 5 nights maximum; closed after Hurricane Lowell until DLNR reopens camping.

Checked online in October 2026. Places marked "not confirmed by the operator" are listed on OpenStreetMap or their own older pages but could not be confirmed as open after Hurricane Lowell. The campsites on the Kalalau Trail are run by the Hawaii Division of State Parks (DLNR): a permit is required, there is no drinking water, trash service or cell signal, and the only facilities are composting toilets (and rain shelters at Hanakoa). Treat all stream water and cook on a stove: open fires are banned.
