On the Huayhuash Circuit you sleep in your own tent at campsites run by the local communities, plus one night in the village of Huayllapa, where a few basic guesthouses have rooms. Each community charges a cash fee for its land and camps (about S/280 to S/300 in total in 2026), so carry soles from Huaraz. Since February 2026 the communities say they no longer admit unguided trekkers: most hikers book a Huaraz agency with a guide, cook and donkeys.
