On the Westweg you sleep in village inns (Gasthäuser), small hotels, guesthouses and a few walkers' hostels; there are no staffed mountain huts in the Alpine sense. Several stage ends (Unterstmatt, Hark, the Wilhelmshöhe, the Kalte Herberge, the Wiedener Eck) have only one or two places on the trail, and many inns have weekly rest days and close for a few weeks in November, so book ahead. Wild camping is not allowed in the national park or the Feldberg reserve; use campsites or the bookable trekking camps (1 May to 31 October).
