Rwenzori Central Circuit emergency & health guide: hospitals, evacuation, 999 and altitude

How help works with no signal and no rescue service, the nearest hospital for each of the 6 stages, altitude, security near the Congo border and the park rules: RMS guides, the package and the UWA fee.

On the mountain your RMS guide is your link to help: tell them at once about injury, a bad headache, breathlessness or confusion. There is no organised mountain rescue or rescue helicopter service, so a sick or injured trekker is helped or carried down by guides and porters to Nyakalengija and driven to hospital, which can take a day or more from the high huts. From a phone, Uganda's emergency numbers are 999 and 112. Carry insurance that covers evacuation and treatment up to 5,000 m.

Carry insurance that covers evacuation and treatment up to 5,000 m, tell someone at home your dates and RMS booking, and keep the RMS numbers on paper.
