On the Markha Valley trek you sleep in family homestays in the villages (Skiu, Sara, Markha, Umlung, Hankar) and in the seasonal tent camp at Nimaling. Families take guests in turn, and the price is set by the villages: in 2026 about Rs 1,600 to 1,800 per person for a mattress, blankets, dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch, and about Rs 2,000 to 2,500 at Nimaling. You can usually just turn up, but the season is short (about mid-June to mid-September) and there are no ATMs after Leh, so carry cash in rupees and a warm sleeping bag for Nimaling.
