On the Machame Route you sleep in tents at the official Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) camps: Machame, Shira 2, Barranco, Karanga and Barafu, then Mweka on the way down. There are no huts or lodges on the route, and you cannot camp on your own: a licensed tour operator books your park permit and camps and brings the tents, food, cook, guide and porters. Book a hotel in Moshi, Machame or Arusha for the nights before and after the climb.
