Crater

Crater Camp (KINAPA)

  • Camping

Campsite at about 5,730 m inside the Kibo crater near the Furtwängler Glacier, about 1 km below Uhuru Peak. Only for well-acclimatised groups whose operator has booked crater camping (extra fee); the altitude makes it risky. You sleep in tents brought by your licensed operator; the KINAPA camping fee is paid through the operator with your permit.

Millennium Camp

Millennium Camp (High Camp, KINAPA)

  • Camping

Campsite at about 3,820-3,950 m on the Mweka descent route, about 3.5 km below Barafu. Some operators sleep here after the summit to make the summit day shorter and the last day longer. You sleep in tents brought by your licensed operator; the KINAPA camping fee is paid through the operator with your permit.

Mweka Camp

Mweka Camp (KINAPA)

  • Camping

Official KINAPA campsite at about 3,100 m in the forest on the Mweka descent route, where most Lemosho groups sleep after the summit (about 6 km and 1,500 m below Barafu); ranger post, toilets and a helipad. Mweka Gate is about 10 km further down. You sleep in tents brought by your licensed operator; the KINAPA camping fee is paid through the operator with your permit.

Mweka Gate

Mweka Gate (KINAPA exit)

  • Other

Park exit gate at about 1,640 m where climbers sign out and collect their summit certificate (green for Stella Point, gold for Uhuru Peak); operators meet groups here for the drive to Moshi, 30-45 minutes away. Tip your crew before you leave.

Checked online in October 2026. Places marked "not confirmed by the operator" are listed on OpenStreetMap or in guides but could not be checked on an official page. The camps on the Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route are run by Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA): designated tent sites with toilets and a ranger post with radio and first aid. There are no huts, beds or shops; your operator brings everything, and camping costs USD 50 per night plus VAT, paid with your permit.
