Stage 1 of the Hittite Trail covers 16.2 km from Hattuşa to Büyükhırka, with 430 m of ascent and 274 m of descent. The highest point is 1,420 m. Allow about 5 hours of walking, plus breaks.

Büyükhırka köyü: köy evi veya kamp
The official seven-day plan suggests a village house or a camp here; there is no guesthouse or shop with a listing. Carry a tent and food, and ask the muhtar (village head) or at the mosque where you may camp or find a room.

Places marked "listed, not confirmed" appear on a public listing (OpenStreetMap, Yandex Maps or the official Hitit Yolu plan) but could not be confirmed on their own website. There are hotels only in Boğazkale and Alaca; the other official overnight stops are wild camps by the ponds or a village house if one is offered, so carry a tent, a stove and food for two days.
