Grand Cliff Top Walk emergency & health guide: hospitals, 000 and park alerts

How to call for help on the cliff top, the nearest hospital for each of the 2 stages, clinics and pharmacies in the villages, and the park rules: fire bans, closed tracks below the cliffs, dogs and drones.

In an emergency call 000 from any phone, or 112 from a mobile; both reach the same service. Ask for an ambulance for an injured walker, or the police for a lost walker: NSW Police coordinate land search and rescue. Mobile signal is limited below the cliff line, so climb to a lookout if you can. Give the name of the nearest lookout or track and, if you can, your GPS coordinates; the Emergency+ app shows them.

Emergency numbers

NumberWhat it is
000Triple Zero: police, ambulance and fire, free from any phone, 24/7. Ask for an ambulance for an injured walker and the police for a lost walker.
112Works from mobile phones only and reaches the same service as 000; it still needs signal from some network.
106Text emergency calls from a TTY for people who are deaf or have a speech impairment. Australia has no SMS emergency service.
131 444NSW Police Assistance Line, non-emergency, 24/7
1800 022 222healthdirect: medical advice from a nurse when it is not an emergency, 24/7
1300 072 757NSW National Parks contact centre, 7 am to 7 pm daily: track conditions and closures

Mobile signal is limited in the park, especially in the gullies below the cliff line. Install the Emergency+ app, which shows your GPS position, tell someone your plans or leave an NPWS trip intention, and check the NPWS alerts and the fire danger on the day. The Blue Mountains Heritage Centre in Blackheath (02 4787 8877, 9 am to 4 pm) lends personal locator beacons (PLBs) for free, useful if you add side trips below the cliffs.
