Cape Wrath
Cape Wrath minibus and Kyle of Durness ferry
- Transfer
- Seasonal — call ahead
The way out: the seasonal minibus from the lighthouse to the ferry slip (£15 for walkers) and the foot-passenger ferry across the Kyle of Durness to Keoldale (about £10 single in 2026, paid separately), usually May to September. Call the day before you arrive at Cape Wrath to get a seat; tides, weather and military firing can stop both.
Ozone Café, Cape Wrath lighthouse
Tiny café in the lighthouse buildings at the end of the trail, open all year, with hot and cold snacks and toilets. Walkhighlands also mentions a small bunkhouse here: ask by phone before you rely on a bed.
Kearvaig
Kearvaig Bothy
MBA bothy on a sandy beach inside the Cape Wrath military range, about 4 km east of the lighthouse, with an open fire (no local fuel). Access is forbidden when red flags fly; check the firing times first.
Strath Chailleach
Strathchailleach Bothy
Small MBA bothy about 1.5 km inland from the trail, some 2.5 km beyond Sandwood Bay, with an open fire that burns only peat you cut yourself. There is no bridge over the Strath Chailleach river despite what older OS maps show; the wade is impossible in spate.
Checked online in October 2026. Places marked "listed, not confirmed" appear on a public listing (OpenStreetMap, VisitScotland, CAMRA or a booking site) or have an out-of-date website, and could not be confirmed for 2026. Rooms on the Cape Wrath Trail are few and far apart, many places are seasonal (about April to October) and phone signal is often missing, so book before you set off and tell your host if you will be late. Bothies are first come, first served; carry a tent. Food parcels can be posted ahead to Glenshiel Campsite; ask other places before you send one.
