Stage 2 of the Amatola Trail covers 17.0 km from Gwili Gwili Hut to Dontsa Hut, with 640 m of ascent and 846 m of descent. The highest point is 1,315 m. Allow about 7.5 hours of walking, plus breaks.

Basic trail hut beside a stream near the Dontsa forest station, with a waterfall close by: four rooms of 4-5 bunks with mattresses, one shower, a braai area and a donkey boiler for hot water. No electricity, and the room doors do not lock; booked only as part of the Amatola Trails package.

Each stage ends at one basic trail hut (bunks with mattresses, no electricity). The huts are booked only as part of the Amatola Trails package, for groups of at least four, from 1 September to 31 May.
