Stage 3 of the Routeburn Track covers 11.3 km from Lake Mackenzie Hut to The Divide, with 441 m of ascent and 800 m of descent. The highest point is 1,028 m. Allow about 4.5 hours of walking, plus breaks.

DOC campsite at the lower end of Lake Gunn on the Milford Road, about 14 km by road south of The Divide (71 km from Te Anau); $18 per adult per night. Book online before you arrive: there are no spaces for walk-ins and no shops nearby.
Te Anau company at 2 Oraka Street that runs buses from The Divide to Te Anau and Queenstown (about 3:30 pm) and from Queenstown to the Routeburn Shelter, and relocates cars between the two ends. Great Walks season 1 Nov-1 May; book ahead.
Day shelter, toilets and car park at the end of the track on the Milford Road (SH94), 85 km from Te Anau; this is where the track buses pick up. There are no beds, food or phone signal here, so book your bus before you start.
Checked online in October 2026. Places marked "not confirmed by the operator" are listed on OpenStreetMap or in guides but could not be checked on an official page. From 1 November to 30 April every DOC hut bunk and campsite on the track must be booked online in advance; without a booking you may be charged a penalty or turned away. Campers may not use the huts.
