DOC Great Walk hut with 50 bunks on the shore of Lake Mackenzie, the usual second night; gas cookers, heating, flush toilets and a ranger in season. Book online for 1 Nov-30 Apr ($88 NZ adult, $132 international adult per night in 2026-27); first come, first served with no gas and no ranger from May to October.

In the Great Walks season they have mattresses, gas cookers, heating, cold water, flush toilets and a ranger, but no showers, food or cooking utensils. From May to October there is no gas, no ranger and no booking.
